The Office of the Public Guardian has announced that the fee for regsitering a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) or an Enduring power of Attorney (EPA) is to be reduced by £20 to £110 on October 1st. Efficiency savings have made the cut possible.
LPAs are important documents which allow you to appoint people you trust to manage your affairs if you were to lose your capacity in the future. Without one, your family may have to make an application to the Court of Protection to gain control of your affairs. This can be very long winded, with substantial initial and ongoing costs. Imagine what trouble a stroke or a bang on the head could cause for your family. While there is obviously a cost to setting up an LPA, this is insignificant compared to a Court application, and we urge all our clients to consider their benefits.
Announcing the reduced fee, Justice Minister Helen Grant said:
“It is really important that people consider making a lasting power of attorney – it means that as they get older, or if they have issues with their health, they have the peace of mind from knowing that the important decisions about their life will be taken by someone they know and trust, if they ever lost capacity.”
Setting up an LPA is easy and cost effective – call us today for a no obligation consultation to find out more.
